The charming resort of Verbier sits at 1,500 metres and is known for its attractive Swiss chalet accommodation and great ski-in ski-out options. This resort is a haven for those looking for excellent skiing and first class catered chalets. Here's our guide to choosing the best chalet location to suit your budget and needs.

Luxury chalets
Verbier is perfect if you're looking for a luxury chalet holiday with excellent facilities, fine cuisine and door-to-slopes transfer services. Verbier's luxury chalets are mainly located to the south of the Médran lifts, slightly away from town along Rue de Médran, where the space means they are rarely overlooked and have a private exclusive feel. It's here you find chalets run by luxury operators such as Ski Verbier, Bramble Ski and CK Verbier.

Ski-in ski-out chalets
The huge advantage of high mountain resorts is the ability to ski-in and ski-out of your chalet, avoiding the morning and evening trudge across town in ski boots. Verbier has some fantastic ski-in ski-out chalets, located to the north of the Médran lift along Rue de Ransou below the golf course and on some of the smaller streets running from it. These chalets are reached by skiing the home run down from Médran where it begins to fork off towards individual chalets. A great way to finish a days' skiing.

Family friendly chalets
The Les Creux area of Verbier, close to the Savoleyres ski lift, is a great place for family chalets. It's a bit quieter and further away from the central après ski bars and restaurants which is perfect if you're not planning a night out on the town every night. This area is a short distance to the three beginners' areas in town, Les Moulins, Les Esserts and Le Rouge, with their magic carpets and friendly feel. Perfect for the little ones.

Chalets close to the après ski
Most of Verbier's après ski bars and entertainment run along the roads from the bottom of the Médran lift to the Place Centrale, meaning this is the best place to base yourself if you want to be close to the action. There are lots of chalets located close to the Médran lift though they gradually thin out as you head towards Place Centrale.

Good value, middle of the range chalets
If you're looking for a mid-range chalet which is reasonably central and not too far from the ski lifts, then consider the area to the west of Place Centrale around the sports centre. Here you'll get good value for money without breaking the bank and Verbier's excellent system of free buses in the winter mean getting to the slopes is no problem at all.

Chalets out of the valley for lower budgets and serious skiers
At the bottom of the switchbacks which lead up to Verbier is the village of Le Châble which at 850 metres above sea level is most definitely out of the valley. However, a chalet here shouldn't be dismissed if you're here to ski hard or you want to save some cash. The cable car at Le Châble links you directly to the Médran ski lift and up to the wide expanse of the 4 Valleys. In busy periods, this can mean you bypass the hoards of eager skiers waiting at the Médran in Verbier itself. In the evenings, the lift back down to Le Châble runs until 1830 meaning you can still après ski in town before heading down to your chalet. It's a quiet village, with a few bars and restaurants and its own small ski area. For obvious reasons, chalets here are cheaper so worth considering if you're on a limited budget.
