Cultural Pursuits in Verbier

Cinema
The cinema in Verbier is a great option for a rainy day. Rather than being a large ‘multi-plex’ Verbier cinema is probably best described as more of an art-house establishment with a welcoming café-lounge and a charming ambience. It was built in the 1950's and has been run by the same family ever since, so has retained its olde-worlde character whilst being regularly updated with the latest sound and projection systems.
Alongside showing the latest films they also put on theatre productions and host brass bands, music conferences and a variety of workshops. As well as showing French and German films they also have a good range of films in English. In fact, if the film was made in English then the chances are it will be shown in its original language with French/German subtitles - a good way to learn a few new phrases!
For contact details and film programmes please see our Cinemas page.

Language Courses in Verbier
The Verbier Language School is run by two multi-lingual Verbier residents, Rosie and Elénore. They aim to teach a number of European languages in a fun and effective environment. All ages and standards are welcome, with age-specific courses being run for children.
On day one of your course you will be expected to take a short test to determine your standard and ensure that you are placed in the best group for your learning needs.
As well as offering group courses they are also happy to take on private clients for one-on-one tuition.
The school is situated opposite the cinema, near to Place Central, and is open from 9am to 9pm. You can register in advance on their website, please click here for further details.

Museums & Galleries
If you’re a bit of a culture vulture, you can drop in to one of the many galleries or museums that are in town. The Val de Bagnes Museum consists of 6 different sites that each reflect different aspects of the areas culture and history. These range from an restored blacksmiths forge, to the Glacier Museum to the Bagnes Museum, which hosts regular art exhibitions alongside its own collection of artifacts. There is also the site of Verbier castle where you can wander amongst the mediaeval ruins; Le Châble Paris Church, which has been designated a Swiss national monument; and the centuries old vaulted stables that have been restored and are to be found scattered across the Alpine meadows. The Fondation Pierre Giannada in nearby Martigny is also well worth a visit for its collection of ancient historical artifacts, sculpture garden and regular exhibitions of European artworks.
For those of you who like your artwork a little more contemporary the Galerie Laforet, Coskun Gallery and Art Barn are all well worth a look.
