A French company is developing a unique drone dedicated to avalanche and mountain safety.

Delta Drone could help secure avalanche prone areas
The local start up company has developed a prototype UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) in association with the Groupe MND, experts in ski area security, that is designed to help pisteurs secure ski areas.
The drone comes equipped with an array of on-board technology including sensors to help ascertain terrain type, snow depth and layers, and a transceiver for avalanche victim recovery. The drone is also said to be capable of targeted avalanche triggering.
The company hope to commercialise their product to ski resorts in France for 2012 and would provide training for the resorts piste security.
