The Patrouille des Glaciers ski mountaineering race between Zermatt and Verbier was cancelled for the second time this weekend after a week of fresh snowfall in Verbier which was followed by gale force winds. The conditions for the race proved too much even for the hardy Patrouille des Glaciers competitors.
On the Wednesday night the weather picked up and high-winds at the Tête Blanche section forced competitors to return to Zermatt, the small race from Arolla was able to start and finish without any issues.
On Saturday a rise in temperatures brought the avalanche risk to high level and for safety reasons the PDG organisers decided to cancel both races.
Teams were shuttled to Verbier from Arolla by bus.
