Dining in Verbier: Eating & Drinking in Verbier

Dining & Going Out in Verbier
There is a wide range of restaurants, bars and cafés to keep you well fed and watered in Verbier as well as an array of opportunities for a bit of après or late-night dining. The countless terraces ensure that you can always find a sunny spot to relax in.
The Local Alpine Cuisine
Although not as renowned as the haute cuisine of Paris or the fine bistros of Lyon, there are a number of Verbier restaurants offering a number of tasty treats for those who like to sample regional specialities. Meat and cheese feature heavily in Alpine cooking – so it’s just as well there are plenty of mountains where you can work off the extra pounds!

Restaurants in Verbier
Verbier has a wide range of restaurants. Many offer traditional Swiss cuisine featuring popular dishes of the Valais (cheese, tomato & meat fondues, raclette, dried meat platters, etc.), but there are also Italian, French/international, Mexican/world, steakhouse, Asian fusion and sushi options. While good cheese fondues can be had everywhere (Au Vieux Valais and Le Carrefour to recommend two), the Sonalon definitely does the best raclette in town! For great value tasty Italian food, don’t miss Al Capone on the way up to Savolyeres, and the Millenium near the main square, offering a reasonably priced crossover style of mountain & modern cuisine with a choice of veggie dishes, is without a doubt one of the top picks. Try the chef’s suggestion…it never disappoints!
Foodies will appreciate the refined cuisine of Gault Millau rated La Grange (13 pts), Le Hameau (14 pts), King’s Restaurant (14 pts) and the Montpellier (16 pts) while budget options include a good number of pizzerias and burger bars around town. Amongst them, the Pub Mont Fort which makes a great burger platter for under 20 SFR, Le Rouge Restaurant and Club, an international style brasserie presented in an attractive setting and the Fer à Cheval, a local’s haunt which has been making good wood-oven pizzas for years!
For a truly authentic Valaisan dining experience set your sights on one of the “restaurants d’altitude”, situated on the mountain-sides above the village. These restaurants (La Marleinaz, La Marmotte and Chez Dany to name a few), typical of the region, will welcome you with open arms for a cosy evening of traditional cuisine and warm ambiance amongst friends & family. Most offer a (paying) skidoo service to get you up, but don’t forget to rent a sled in one of the many ski shops in town for an exhilarating ride back down!
Tired & don’t feel like eating out? There are a number of take-out options and home delivery services, such as the A-Team pizza delivery service. For a more sophisticated option there are companies such as Cool Cuisine, who offer a full menu of delicious dishes and will deliver freshly prepared restaurant-standard meals to your door. See our Dining at Home page for further details.
To be noted: Although the choice of restaurants on offer around the resort is quite decent, the demand is even greater still, so be sure to make a reservation (imperative during peak periods!) to avoid going hungry. For numbers and locations, see the Restaurants & Gourmet Restaurants listings. A free restaurant guide, updated & edited every year, is also available throughout the resort.
Mountain Restaurants in Verbier & the 4 Valleys
Verbier has a decent number of restaurants to choose from up the mountain, and although most serve food of a good standard, the culinary possibilities are limited to a similar, somewhat repetitive fare. In most establishments, you will usually find the traditional Valaisan meat and cheese dishes, as well as the “classics”: pastas, burgers, pizzas and salads. Portions for the most part aren’t extravagant, but most times, you’ll find the prices are. Expect to pay 17 to 33 SFR for a main course, with some meat dishes reaching into the 40 SFR mark.
