Latest Gear: Mountain Lifestyle Clothing

A quick guide to some of the best items on the market

The month of May started with winterlike temperatures and heavy snow across the Alps but things are changing and by the end of the week it’ll feel like summer.

With so many brands doing a lifestyle range these days I thought I’d round up some of the best styles in this category for the upcoming summer. This is the kind of stuff you can do a spot of hiking or climbing in and still wear to the pub afterwards, or bike to work in and not look out of place for the rest of the day.

Kuhl Legwear

Kuhl have been around a good few years now and are well known for their range of legwear in particular. The Revolvr Pant is a classic Kuhl style and is a perfect example of what they do best. The Revolvr is a super durable pant with a casual style yet technical detailing. Features like articulated knees and a gusseted crotch mean these pants are great for a quick bouldering session after work before hitting the pub. The cotton / nylon fabric gives the Revolvr a casual look and a long life.

Haglofs 19Fourteen Range

Haglofs’ 19Fourteen range of clothing, footwear and equipment offers technical construction and performance with a more casual urban aesthetic. I particularly like the look of the Oxberg Hood which combines the warmth, stretch and durability of Polartec Powerstretch with clean lines and subtle styling. The Karlbo Windstopper Jacket looks great too. It uses Gore Windstopper fabric for protection and breathability but has the kind of style lines that would look out of place during a city commute.

Maloja

Maloja are a true multi sport brand. Named after the tiny village at the end of the Engadine Valley in Switzerland, Maloja’s range of bike / lifestyle crossover pieces are particularly good. Check out the Women’s MelodieM which is made from a Merino and Polyester mix fabric for technical performance with a casual look and the Men’s version of the same style, the JimmyM.

Five ten Footwear

Five Ten make the definitive mountain lifestyle footwear. Their range crosses over from climbing, hiking and biking into everyday outdoor lifestyle wear with ease. Five Ten have had more iconic products than almost any other brand over the years, none more so than the Guide Tennie approach shoe. The Guide Tennie can handle scrambles and long mountain routes with ease yet still remain comfortable enough for everyday use. The Guide Tennies are the definitive dirtbag climber’s shoe. On the biking side of things the Five Ten Freerider is the classic style. It’s great for everyday wear being comfortable, good looking and durable yet the legendary Stealth rubber sole unit means it’s just as awesome on the bike too. Plus it’s available in 12 different colourways!
