Meet This Years Verbier Snow Reporters

Introducing Ben & Jennie, this year's reporters

featured in News & reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Verbier Editor Updated

Our reporters are back! This year we've got Ben keeping you up to date with everything to do with nightlife and the apres ski scene, and Jennie covering snow reports, family activities, the odd restaurant review, interviews and year round life in Verbier.

First up Ben tells us a little bit more about himself:

I was born in Portsmouth but, most of my family are from the west country. But, I have lived in Ibiza, Sweden, Norway and USA! I have been in Verbier for 6 seasons and the lifestyle and people keep bringing me back.

I am passionate about sport and music. I love to keep fit but, my work during the winter season prevents me from doing as much as I would like. Meeting as many people as possible and enjoying Verbier for what it really is, its beautiful landscape.

I eat out a lot and luckily I have some close friends who are very talented chefs, so I get to eat some amazing food. I never really eat a chosen meal, I love all food.

I have a level 1 FA coaching badge and currently studying social media business marketing with IDM online. I use to play pro and semi pro football for 12 years. It was a huge part of my life until i got injured.

Having the confidence to leave home and start a new life abroad, I have not looked back since. I believe you should always look ahead and love every experience and moment because it won't always last. I would have not learnt this, if I didn't travel. I would love to travel to Mongolia, it looks so raw and untouched, I think it would be an amazing experience.

Verbier is a hard place to find out what is going on, I hope I can bring insider knowledge to people who are not here or who are coming to resort. I have been working in the nightlife scene since I arrived, it is ingrained in my life here.

And Jennie:

I started working on boats at the age of 17 when I joined the Royal Naval Reserves through University in Scotland (I’m Irish through and through though - by the way!). I fell into a job with Sunsail sailing holidays in Turkey for 2 years – and I developed a real love for Turkey: its chequered history, its culture and its people.

From there I took a long haul flight to Australia and spent a number of years as a dive instructor on the Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea. This led me to work on superyachts in Australia, the South Pacific, New Zealand and finally back to Europe. I met my husband in France and he told me about the snow and the mountains and brought me to do my first winter season in Switzerland …… 8 years (and 2 gorgeous children) later …… we are based in Verbier all year round.

We snowboard on all of the best days and together with our kids, we partake in all kinds of mountain adventures. We own a fun restaurant and bar by night and enjoy our family by day. I love food – eating it, reading and writing about it …. especially flavours of the East, but I’ll settle for a tasty fondue and glass of Fendant in the winter months!

I have itchy feet and a nomadic heart, so I don’t think Verbier will be forever, I still dream of my roots by the sea, but for now and the next years, Verbier is home and I am excited to share it with you –snippets of information on what to do as a family, great venues to eat and hopefully some interesting chats with locals to provide insight on life in these mountains. Do I miss the sea? Yes. Do I love the view from my bedroom every morning? Yes! Do I thrive in the fresh mountain air and the fabulous sports on offer? Yessss!!
