BBQs, blood, gore & more : 27th January 2012

by S H | | published: 27th Jan, 2012

So, it’s been smiles all round resort this week as the clouds rolled in, the heavens opened and kindly dropped off about half a metre of the fluffy stuff. And don’t for one second expect those grins to fade, there’s more on the way – with another dusting forecast this weekend. It’s a great time to be in Verbier! Ski hard, party hard has consequently been the vibe around town as both holidaymakers and seasonaires burned the slopes by day and the candle by night. ...read more

Powder & Pint Skis : 20th January 2012

by S H | | published: 20th Jan, 2012

Apparently there’s a front coming in from the north this weekend (steady Johnny). For you non-meteorologists out there, allow me to translate: Snow. Most people in Verbier have forgotten what clouds look like as the blue skies have stayed in force this week. But times they are a-changin’, with a load of fresh stuff forecast to be delivered this weekend. Happy days. ...read more

Blue skies and skittles : 13th January 2012

by S H | | published: 13th Jan, 2012

So, as we roll further into January this week, a time most like to reserve as a period of rest for their wallets and their livers, Verbier is showing no sign of letting up at all. And what a week it’s been. January blues have arrived in the best way possible - in the skies. The heavy blizzards and snowfall that dominated the reports last week moved along on Sunday, and made way for beautiful bluebird days and some incredible skiing conditions. ...read more

Apres-ski tips from our guest reporter : 23rd December 2011

by Izzy Lawrence | | published: 23rd Dec, 2011

With an epic amount of snow fall the week before xmas it has been no surprise that mulled wine has been a common thread of my first week in Verbier. A more unique (yet equally warming) drink has also crept in thanks to one bar tender at Le Rouge whipping up a chilli and vodka shot to go with their complimentary parma ham. Le Rouge is definitely one of my favourite haunts so far, you can not argue with a good fire and quality music, I literally want to melt into the chairs when I go in there and it is perfect for when you come in from the slopes. ...read more

Verbier apres scene off to a flying start : 15th December 2011

by Lee Fieldsend | | published: 15th Dec, 2011

Even though we had a slow start to the season in terms of snowfall the après ski and nightlife of Verbier was off to a running start from the beginning. This time of the season is always very exciting. The influx of returning friends and new faces of both workers and visitors is a refreshing flip side to the peace and quiet of the summer. ...read more

Verbier apres ski report - 24-Apr-2011

by Blondie Horan | | published: 24th Apr, 2011 So they say that all good things must come to an end and I am afraid this to be true for the 2010-11 winter season here in Verbier. The end is nigh as we move into the final week here on a glorious Easter Sunday. Everybody is packing up and moving out with most of the season workers leaving this week. However, the resort is still full of families enjoying the sunshine on their Easter holidays and desperately trying to ski what is left of the slopes. ...read more

Verbier apres ski report - 16-Apr-2011

by Blondie Horan | | published: 16th Apr, 2011 It is the time for end of season closing parties as we move into spring here in Verbier(even though it feels like summer), which means lots of parties and nights left to enjoy. The Farinet Après closing Party last Wednesday was absolutely crazy, with the whole place absolutely rammed. The Dicktators led the party and had the crowd rocking. Even Lounge and the Terrace were packed and with the sun shining and drinks flowing outside, it definitely was the place to be. ...read more

Verbier apres ski report - 10-Apr-2011

by Blondie Horan | | published: 10th Apr, 2011 We are in full summer mode here in Verbier with temperatures reaching a staggering 25 degrees in resort and a scorching 15 degrees up at Ruinette. Not ideal when sporting salopettes and ski jackets! However, everyone is making the most of the final weeks of the season and the pistuers are doing an amazing job maintaining what is left of our fast melting snow. ...read more

Verbier apres ski report - 03-Apr-2011

by Blondie Horan | | published: 3rd Apr, 2011 It’s been high jinks in Verbier this weekend for the High Five. The hugely popular event attracted a very substantial crowd to watch professionals race the everyday skier down the piste. People get the chance to go head to head with the professionals in giant slaloms, speed skiing, fun triathlon, parallel slalom and boarder cross. It’s a huge event and the whole mountain was rocking all day, with the Chalet Carlsberg set up like a mini festival with music and food and drink stalls. After all the days racing the public then got to be served drinks by pros such as Luke Alphand, Alberta Tomba and Chemmy Alcott who were stationed behind the bar at the Pub Mont Fort. The after party was buzzing at the Pub with the terrace packed with big smiley, slightly sun burnt faces after a fantastic day on the mountain. ...read more

Verbier apres ski report - 25-Mar-2011

by Blondie Horan | | published: 25th Mar, 2011 Everything has settled down here in Verbier after the madness that is the Nissan Xtreme. It was a fantastic weekend with some seriously hardcore lines on the Bec. Congratulations to all the competitors and especially to Aurelian Ducroz would have a truly epic line, which really showed that, he really is in a league of his own! The rain in the village did not hamper the fun, with the Nissan hub buzzing with activities and plenty of music blasting out from everywhere. On Sunday, the clouds cleared and the Snow Gods smiled down on the Freeride, as we could not have asked for a better day with blue bird skies. The set up at the top of Gentianes was great, there were large screens to watch the riders, music pumping, Nissan had an ice bar and the beers and rosti were a flowing in the sunshine. The after party was at the Pub Mont Fort, and as always with the Pub, they threw a great party. ...read more

Verbier apres ski report - 19-Mar-2011

by Blondie Horan | | published: 19th Mar, 2011 Its Freeride fever here in Verbier and the town is buzzing with the anticipation of the weekend’s big mountain competition. It’s taking place on the Bec de Rosses this Saturday, however due to weather conditions this was changed to Sunday. Regardless of what day the riders will face the Bec there are plenty of festivities, events and gigs to keep everybody entertained for the weekend. The street fair is in full swing, with stalls lining the main street from the Farinet to Medran. The weather has not been too favorable but it will not dampen the party vibe throughout Verbier. ...read more

Verbier apres ski report - 11-Mar-2011

by Blondie Horan | | published: 11th Mar, 2011 Well what a crazy week it has been here in Verbier. With Mardi-Gras last Tuesday, the party stayed going well into the wee hours of Thursday night, and people are just about recovering now. It was an epic party with all the bars in town rammed with fancy dress clad revelers. I went to Farinet Lounge which had a ‘When I grow up’ theme. It was jam packed, with 80’s classics blasting and everybody was rocking out. T-Bar was all packed to the brim and all the guys at Coup D’Etat looked fantastic and smart in their suits for the Prohibition Theme. ...read more

Verbier apres ski report - 25-Feb-2011

by Blondie Horan | | published: 25th Feb, 2011 What an amazing week it has been here in Verbier. We finally got the snow that we all have been waiting for! The visibility has been a bit poor for a few days, but today was perfectly bluebird and with the snow that came in yesterday and last night it made for a pretty epic day. I took advantage of the fresh tracks that Nissan are running for free, and I was on the mountain carving fresh lines down the corduroy piste by 8.15! I got 3 loops of the amazing untracked piste before the heavy crowds of holiday makers arrived to the top. I think a beer in the pub will be well deserved after a glorious day on the mountain. Make sure to hit happy hour at the Pub Mont Fort from 4pm to 5pm every day, it’s the best and cheapest in town. ...read more

Verbier apres ski report - 18-Feb-2011

by Blondie Horan | | published: 18th Feb, 2011 I think that maybe the pub Mont Fort “Pray for Snow” Party had a little bit of an effect for us here in Verbier. We got a dusting of some snow over the past two days and with the clouds constantly rolling in hopefully we will get some more! Next week at the Pub is the eagerly anticipated, much loved “One Piece Descent” which is happening on Wednesday – don’t forget to sign up in advance! Get your best one-piece ski suit out of the wardrobe or anything wacky that you feel like wearing and join in the fun and frolics of the day. The after party is of course going to be held at Mont Fort… this is a day that you will not want to miss. ...read more

Verbier apres ski report - 11-Feb-2011

by Blondie Horan | | published: 11th Feb, 2011 People say you can have too much of a good thing but I’m not sure! The sun has not stopped shining here for the past week and everybody is in a spring party mood. Its April weather with nearly balmy evenings and people are chilling out and totally relaxing. Bring on the summer. Seriously everybody is loving the sun and totally forgetting about the lack of snow and getting busy planning bbqs. No need to get up early to hit some fresh lines…….just kick back and have another beer at après. ...read more

Verbier apres ski report - 04-Feb-2011

by Blondie Horan | | published: 4th Feb, 2011 It has been a quiet week here in Verbier, which is the calm before the storm that is February holidays. So enjoy it while you can. We still have not had any snow and the slopes are getting progressively icy and in parts brown. Which is not ideal, but it has inspired the great people at the Pub Mont Fort to throw a major ‘Lets Pray for Snow Party’. Which I may have slightly inspired as I called for a group prayer in the last report!! Only kidding, but there is a big night planned to join Verbier together and use the power of party to hopefully bring some much needed and deserved snow………genius. It’s happening on Tuesday 8th, so wear your best white ensemble to summon the snow gods, any excuse for fancy dress really. ...read more

Verbier apres ski report - 28-Jan-2011

by Blondie Horan | | published: 28th Jan, 2011 Ok, so there is not a lot of snow here in Verbier at the moment, it’s all a bit icy and brown, but have no fear the night life has not been effected at all. Actually this lack of snow is enhancing Verbier’s après as everybody is partying a little harder as long days on the mountain are not being done in the current conditions. People are leaving the pistes earlier getting the bars fuller earlier. With the cold temperatures everybody’s heading inside, not loitering on the terrace. This giving a nice cozy après atmosphere.
Madison is the band of the week at Farinet Après, and is causing quite a stir. Fronted by a hot blonde, these guys hail from Argentina and are belting out a heavy dose of classic rock from the 80’s and 90’s. They are definitely a favorite with the masses and are not to be missed. So get down to Farinet Après if you can. Farination presents Punkrolla this weekend at the Lounge and Casbah from 10pm to 4pm. Also at Casbah this Thursday is Dj James Kameran (Space Ibiza) playing Ibiza Hits.
The VADA pantomime is on tonight and it has been greeted with fantastic reviews. Verbier seasonnaires can be seen after the performance frolicking around the town in their fancy dress, much to the amusement of Après revelers. It is the last performance tonight but hopefully not of the season and I will be sure to keep you updated on any performances to come.
Faye is back to T-Bar after a few weeks off. Her loyal following will be delighted of this, me included. Faye will be playing from 9.30pm onwards at T-Bar on Saturday, and if you have not experienced a Faye gig now is the opportunity and I will guarantee a good night.
This Friday The Ultimate Test Tour arrives to Verbier for the weekend. It’s a fantastic chance to sample the best ski and snowboard gear of the season from the world of Free ride. Head to Medran, the main lift station from the 28th to the 30th to find out more information and pick up a fat pair of skis to test. The after party is going to be happening on Sunday in the Pub Mont Fort, so there should be a good night to finish off the weekend of free riding.
Saturday week 5th February promises to be an absolutely huge night in Verbier as Andy Cato of Groove Armada hits the Pub Mont for what promises to be a truly epic d.j set. Everyone in Verbier is psyching themselves of for one of the biggest nights of the season. It is kicking off at 10.30pm and tickets are available from the Pub Mont Fort. I would suggest getting there early as the place will be jammed. Make sure to sort out tickets before hand to avoid disappointment as they will be selling like hot cakes! Do not forget also that its beat the Clock every Monday at the pub and the cheapest Happy Hour in town everyday from 4pm to 5pm.
At the Kings bar this Friday 28th James Kameran will be hitting the decks and Dj Alex Scott will be at Farm Club. He also will be there on Saturday night and Jose Arjona will be taking over King’s Bar.
Verbier’s underground d.j collective ‘You Ain’t Heard S**t’ will be hitting Wonderbar on the 1st of February, playing drum and bass, funk, dub step and electro. They are ever the crowd pleasers, and definitely worth a trip down to Wonderbar.
Crystal and Ski World have started a weekly pub quiz at The Big Ben on Thursday nights. Everybody is welcome and it is only 3Chf to enter with fantastic prizes up for grabs. Its starts at 9.30pm and is great fun for all.
Wishing a great week to everybody in Verbier and lets all pray for snow! ...read more
