Car crash on road from Martigny to Verbier

by Robin Deering | Ski Editor | published: 13th Jan, 2012Three people were injured, two seriously, in a car crash at Bovernier on the road between Verbier and Martigny late Thursday afternoon.
A 48 year old Swiss motorist travelling towards Martigny met head on a British car travelling towards Verbier
For reasons yet to be determined the Swiss car veered off -track and was found travelling on the wrong side of the road when he collided head on with the British car.
The driver of the British car, travelling alone, was fortunate not to have a passenger as the impact significantly damaged the off-side of his vehicle.
Both the Swiss driver and his 29 year old passenger were seriously injured and transferred to hospital in Sion by helicopter.
The British driver injured also but less critical was taken to the hospital in Martigny by ambulance.
A second accident occurred instants after the first collision but no one was injured and damage was done to the three vehicles.
Two helicopters, twenty firefighters, two ambulances and police were dispatched to the scene of the accident whilst the Grand-Saint-Bernard road was closed to all traffic for more than two hours.
