It's snowing, AGAIN! : 28th January 2012
It is dumping here in Verbier, once again! With little or no let up, it seems like this really is set to be an epic season.

More snow overnight : 25th January 2012
The snow isn't letting up! A further 15cm of fresh stuff fell yesterday and overnight.
All lifts and areas are open with the exception of Mont Gele. The weather today is overcast with flat light and the pistes are quiet. Risk of avalanche is 3 out of 5.
The weather is set to clear a little tomorrow, before closing back in for the weekend. There are light winds and the average temperature is around -3.

It's snowing in Verbier! : 20th January 2012
We got used to almost continuous snowfall during the first few weeks of the season. Over the last week or so we've had wall to wall sunshine and were able to make the most of the fabulous conditions. Well now, it seems, the snow is back!
In resort today we had 20cm of snow and there's another 30 cm due in overnight. Roads are snow covered to below Verbier and the snow level is likely to drop to Le Chable in the valley below over night. We've had moderate to strong winds and today all freeride runs, Mont Fort sector and links to 4 Vallees were closed. That is likely be the same tomorrow as snow continues to fall.
Risk of avalanche is expected to be 3 out of 5 by the morning and if more snow falls over night than anticipated then that could rise and there could be more lift closures. Unfortunately the Verbier Ride 12 Slopeslyle event, due to take place this weekend, has been rescheduled due to the quantity of snow forecast.

The first Dump Alert of 2012 : 5th January 2012
It's snowing AGAIN! Around 20cm has fallen so far today with at least another 20cm said to be on its way. Winds have been very strong and coming from NW through SW. The risk of avalanche is still 3 out of 5 but that may easily rise as snow continues to fall.
Mont Fort sector and links to 4 Vallees are closed but Savoleyres, bruson and main areas still open. All off piste free ride runs are currently closed. These include Vallon d'Arbi/ Col Des Mines, Mont Gele, Chasoure and Gentianes to name a few.
As you would expect, there is snow on all roads in resort at the moment and freezing level is expected to fall this evening to the valley. Temperatures are very cold -15 to - 30 at different times of the day. The snow is expected to continue into Friday before the weather breaks, bringing in sunshine. Perfect timing for the weekend!

It's dumping again! : 30th December 2011
The glorious sunshine that we've been enjoying over the Christmas period has come to an abrupt end. Overnight 20cm of fresh snow fell at mid station and 30cm at glacier level. Wind is mid to high strength and freezing level is down to the valley so expect snow on all roads. Chains will be required.

40cm falls in resort : 16th December 2011
And up to 60cm up the mountain
I woke up this morning to between 40cms of powder in resort and understand up to 60 cms fell up the mountain. The lifts are closed for the entire day while pistes are secured (avalanche rating is 4 out of 5). No news yet re: tomorrow.
Off piste is an absolute no no as conditions are so unstable that spontaneous avalanches can be expected on un-secured off piste. The Le Chable bubble is working so if you want to get up to Verbier you can. Last night after 30cms of snow I drove up and down road to Martigny and found conditions in a 4 wheel drive with snow tyres to still be quite slippy but I still had plenty of control driving slowly and dabbing break/ using gearbox to slow. Today all roads in resort are covered in snow and it is still falling!
The freezing level is still half way down the valley but that is expected to drop through the weekend as the snow continues. More snow is due over the next few days with at least another half metre coming in over the weeekend. Winds up the mountains are predicted to be as high as 150km/h and it is coming from the west, pretty much as it has been since it started snowing at the start of the season.

Snowing again in Verbier : 12th December 2011
And up to one metre forecast for later in the week
Since this morning we've had a good 10 centimetres of fresh snow and it is still snowing heavily, as low as the valley floor. It is expected to clear tonight and temperatures will drop but then more snow is forecast for tomorrow.

First dump of the 2011-2012 season : 5th December 2011
Finally, it snows!
We have all had our fingers crossed over the weekend that the cooler weather and snow that was forecast would finally materialise.
And the good news is, it has! Overnight Verbier received a medium sized snowfall (5cm in resort and around 15cm above Ruinettes mid station). The weather is clearing right now but more snow is forecast for next few days with cold temperatures and light winds.
Roads in the valley are wet from rain but half way up to Verbier the roads are all covered in wet snow/ slush and careful driving is required. Snow chains should not be required except on higher/ steeper roads in resort but cars should have snow tyres on by now and 4 wheel drive is a big advantage. Snow chains should be in the back of the car as it is a legal requirement. Check out the following article for more information on driving in resort. Enjoy the new snow!
