| Après Ski |
There’s no better way to celebrate a great day on the slopes than with a few well earned après ski drinks amongst friends. Verbier has no shortage of great spots on which to set your sights when the lifts shut for the day. Here are a few suggestions:
1936 (Carrefour, on the ski slopes, directly below the Mayentzet chairlift)
Situated just before the final slope leading to Médran, at the height of the Carrefour and directly below the old Mayentzet double chair lift, the sun-drenched 1936 Bar is a great place to stop for a breather and have an end of day drink amongst friends. On sunny spring afternoons, the place is literally packed, and a good atmosphere reigns. DJ’s are sometimes spinning good vibes while a BBQ permeates the air with nice smells. Beware of breaking limbs on route to the village after having had a good few though…
Farinet Après Ski (Place Centrale, in the Farinet Hotel)
Voted the Best Après Ski Bar Worldwide in 2004 by “Which” magazine, it is the only place in Verbier that showcases live bands everyday throughout the season. Open everyday from 4pm with a Happy Hour until 5 pm, an extensive shot list, huge sliding roof and a commanding position over the main square, it's an après ski not to be missed...
Fer à Cheval (Rue de Médran, halfway between P. Centrale & Médran)
With a large sunny terrace, the “Fer” as it’s referred to, is another popular place where locals like to meet. In the springtime, as the days get longer and warmer, it isn’t uncommon to see the après crowd overflow onto the Rue de Médran, filling the street surrounding the establishment.
Pub Mont Fort (just a hop & a skip up from Médran)
An absolute staple of Verbier, the “Pub” as it’s referred to by the locals, is open daily during the ski season from 3pm. With its large sunny terrace, half-price “Happy Hour” drinks from 4-5 pm, and practically “ski-in” location just above Médran, it’s the
perfect place to meet with friends to go over the events of the day.

Besides offering world-class skiing, Verbier boasts a very healthy nightlife. For all the party people out there, four nightclubs, each with their own distinct look, clientele and atmosphere, are open nightly from 11pm until 4am during the ski season. They are the following:
Casbah (Place Centrale, in the Farinet Hotel’s basement)
Attracting a younger crowd and offering more reasonable prices than the Farm Club, the Casbah has carved a reputation for itself in the last few years as the absolute late-night party central in Verbier. Often filled to capacity, come early if you don’t want to be stuck in an endless queue at the door.
Coco Club (Route des Creux, directly uphill from Place Centrale)
Opening in December 2007, Coco’s will replace the old Tara club (or Taratata). Aiming to be an upper-class club, it will offer sleek table service and feature top DJ’s.
Farm Club (Route de Verbier, 2 minutes walk from Place Centrale)
The “Farm” is an absolute institution in Verbier. The place to be and to be seen…people watching is definitely on the agenda as celebrities tend to make frequent appearances. Just make sure to bring your wallet as you’re sure to give it a good workout!
Icebox (Rue de la Poste, 2 minutes walk from Place Centrale, just past the Post Office)
Formerly known as “the Scotch”, this place has been bought by the owners of the Pub Mont Fort in 2005. Smaller than the other clubs in town and often less crowded; a good place to go with a group of friends if you don’t particularly enjoy being pushed around by the party hordes.
There are also a good few late night bars worth mentioning where the last call is at 1.30am…a somewhat more reasonable hour if you plan to make it up on the slopes for 1st lift. Here are some of the most popular haunts:
Central T-bar (Place Centrale, above the Banque Cantonale, 7.30am-1.30am)
Formerly a tea-room, the “Tbar” as locals call it, doubles as a coffee shop during the day, where English breakfast, soups & sandwiches can be had, and a lively bar every evening, where games can be watched on their large flat-screen TV and live music can be heard on certain nights. Prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is relaxed & a small but good bar menu is offered during dinner hours so you don’t have to interrupt your Lager consumption.
Crok No Name Bar (Route des Creux, 5 minutes walk up from Place Centrale, 4pm – 1.30am)
“Le Crok”, owned and run by a very special local lady named Marie-Claire, has been around for a good while. Situated above the Croquignoles bakery on route towards the “white” church from the main square, it’s a switched-on bar with great music and a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. There are often good live bands or DJ’s playing, and it serves up beer on tap, wine by the glass, mixed drinks, champagnes and good cocktails. A little pricier than some other places, it’s definitely the better place to be if you have a slightly quieter evening in mind.
Farinet Lounge Bar (Place Centrale, in the Farinet Hotel, 4pm – 1.30am)
With its dim lighting, good music and comfortable lounge space, the Farinet has quickly become one of the best spots in town to go for a drink. Offering a good selection of cocktails & mixed drinks alongside "bento boxes" of international cuisine (Indian, Thai, Mexi), come relax in front of the log fire in their sumptuous leather sofas. On the weekends, the place transforms itself when guest DJ’s are flown in and things can become pretty full-on…
King’s Bar (Rue de la Poste, downstairs in the King’s Parc Hotel, 7pm – 1.30am)
With very dim lighting, red velvet walls & a fireside lounge space, the King’s offers funky music in a chilled atmosphere, where fine wines, select malt whiskys, rums, liqueurs, Havana cigars and probably the best cocktails in town are on offer. The perfect place to have after dinner drinks...before hitting the clubs.
Pub Mont Fort (just a hop & a skip up from Médran, 3pm – 1.30am)
An absolute staple of Verbier, the “Pub” as it’s referred to by the locals, has been around…well, forever it seems. Their slogan says it all: “Still the original, still the best”. They offer drink promotions from Sunday to Thursday, good bar food from 4-10pm, a big selection of beers, wine, shots & shakers…with great classic music pumping all night long!
