We want to give you the best information to help you make decisions as to when and where to ski. We try and keep the reports coming regularly, especially when the snow is falling; but even when conditions aren't great we'll give you plenty of ideas and insiders' tips on where to go and how amuse yourself on the slopes. Today the forecast weather was for a mixture of clouds and sun. It snowed a couple of centimetres last night and this morning the sun was out. By the middle of the afternoon clouds came in but towards the end of the day the clouds cleared again allowing sunshine to bathe the slopes once more. Although the cover throughout the area is really good at the moment the slopes are a bit icy so make sure that you have well tuned edges.
Crowds are not too bad now as we slip into March and it is very easy to avoid the busier areas. Even this weekend was not as busy as expected on the slopes although the bars and clubs were packed over the weekend. Don’t forget to ski Bruson and Savoleyres when visiting Verbier as they don’t tend to get as busy as the main ski area and are great for families and beginners.
The temperatures are very cold at the moment and coupled with the wind they are around -20 at Ruinettes level.
Off piste there is really good cover but there is not so much fresh powder around except on the higher shaded slopes which are quite unstable at the moment. The risk of avalanche is still 3 out of 5 so take care off piste as a mixture of wind, snowfalls and large temperature variations have created lots of unstable layers throughout the snowpack.
The weather for the next few days is for lots of sun but as the forecast has been unreliable recently it could do anything. Temperatures are expected to rise a bit tomorrow but it will still remain quite cold.
Last night I went to the Chapelon Restaurant for the first time. We had a very enjoyable meal from a menu that is fusion orientated and refreshingly different for Verbier.
This Tuesday On Hale Ice take over at Farinet Apres Ski and Casbah are having a USA High School party.
