Set up in 2006, New Gen’s Verbier team is led by Tom Waddington, known affectionately to the team as their fearless leader.
Their team of international guides know the challenging terrain of Verbier inside and out, and with so many great faces and tree lines to explore, it’s no wonder it’s such a popular resort for advanced skiers. These highly qualified local experts will take you on an adventure to remember and show you where they ski on their day off.
If you haven’t yet ventured off piste and want to give it a go, or you’re an experienced all-mountain goat, there’s something for you. New Gen’s experienced guides know Verbier’s terrain well. They’ll take you off the beaten track, find hidden powder stashes and teach you how to ski them with style. Get fresh tracks, beat the crowds and head out on the ultimate adventure exploring the Four Valleys.
What you can do
On Piste Guiding
Perfect for people who prefer to learn on the move. Find the best reds and easy blacks in your resort in this guided adventure with tips. They’ll use their local knowledge to find some hero snow to give you a morning to remember.
Off Piste Guiding
Get off the beaten track and find fresh lines with their instructors’ local knowledge. Aimed at serious skiers or boarders with experience of off piste and who can ski or board black runs safely. They’ll make the most of the available terrain and show you their favourite spots.
Intro to Backcountry
Develop technique at skiing or boarding off piste in 2-day off piste course. After a basic avalanche safety briefing, the first session will focus on technique. Their aim is to help you to give you the skills and confidence to ski off piste in various conditions. The second session is where the fun begins. They’ll be putting these skills into practice in the deep stuff.
Intro to Ski Touring / Splitboarding
Learn the basics of touring, either on skis, or a split board, and experience what lies outside of the piste markers. Imagine escaping the crowds and getting off the beaten track. Picture birds flying overhead, and the only people in sight, your ski buddies. Then imagine the satisfaction of reaching that empty ridge and looking down at the fresh face below, knowing you’ve earned every turn.
During the first session they’ll give you the basics on the equipment – how to attach and remove skins, how to change the binding to allow you to walk, then ski, as well as some basic avi safety. Then the second day is your chance to put this knowledge into action, and head off on a real tour!
Please note, avalanche safety equipment will be required for most off piste lessons, unless you’re learning technique around the piste markers. If you do not have your own New Generation may have some they can loan you, or they can advise you where you can hire it. While they really love taking you on these adventures, each session is condition dependent and your safety and the safety of their instructors is paramount.
Where to meet
Their Verbier meeting point is situated outside Relais de Neige, by the bottom of the Medran lift.
New Generation ski instructors are easily identifiable in their distinctive French blue & navy jackets and navy blue trousers from The North Face, courtesy of their sponsors Ellis Brigham.
