Another potentially breezy, unsettled week in Verbier

7-day weather forecast for Alpe d'Huez

featured in News & reviews Author Rob Wood, Verbier Reporter Updated

Last week saw a bit of everything, some strong winds and some lovely Spring sunshine as well – and this week looks like being something similar.

We may get some very light snow fall on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday but only around 10 to 15cm is likely in total at an elevation of around 2500m. As Spring begins to take control, the freezing level looks like it's staying at around 2000/2500m all week.

Currently low pressure is in control over the whole of the alps and this looks set to be the case through until Wednesday into Thursday when hopefully a weak area of high pressure approaching from the Atlantic may bring a more settled and less breezy end to the week.

Conditions on-piste will definitely have a more Spring-like feel as the mercury is, on the whole, on the way up.

Sunrise/Sunset:

Monday – 0702 & 2011 = 13 hours 09 minutes of daylight
Sunday – 0651 & 2019 = 13 hours 28 minutes of daylight

Monday

Cloudy in the main with some light snow flurries in the afternoon. Winds will be light to moderate at around 10km/h and be South Westerly in direction. A freeze height of around 2200m may mean a bit of light rain at lower elevations. Daytime resort highs of around +5C, although at altitude it will still be more like -4C.

Tuesday

With the Jetstream directly overhead and with a narrowing in the isobars it will be a breezy day with winds increasing to around 25km/h, still South Westerly, so expect some lift disruption. Again cloudy with the possibility of more prolonged snowfall, around 7cm is possible in the morning and early afternoon. Thankfully the freeze height will be a bit lower at around 1700m and this should mean that any precipitation does fall as snow rather than rain. A colder day with afternoon resort highs of around +1C.

Wednesday

Another breezy day with South Westerly winds at around 20km/h, so again some lift disruption is possible. A bright start to the day but cloud will build as the day goes on and some snow flurries are possible in the afternoon and early evening.

Thursday

Any early sunshine will be replaced by cloud fairly quickly and we may get a few snow showers. A freeze height of around 1900m will mean snow in the main, but the precipitation may fall as rain at lower elevations. It will again be quite breezy with winds remaining South Westerly in direction and staying at around 20km/h in the morning, but thankfully dropping off as the day goes on, so any lift disruption should be limited to the very highest lifts in the morning only.

Friday

Winds will thankfully drop overnight to around 10km/h and have veered to a more Southerly direction. Sunny intervals to start the day, but any cloud should burn off by lunchtime and the afternoon looks set for a shift in a deck chair! Afternoon resort highs of around +5C, but it will feel warmer in the lovely sunshine.

Saturday

Winds remain Southerly at around 10km/h and we should get some nice long sunny spells. A rising freeze height, to around 2300m, will mean nice warm Spring temperatures, with afternoon highs of around +9C.

Sunday

Another mild Spring day up on the hill with plenty of long sunny intervals likely. Winds will have dropped off further to around 5km/h and will be more variable in their direction. Like Saturday afternoon resort highs will be up around +9C, and it will feel even warmer in the lovely afternoon sunshine.
