The electric bike arrived on the Alpine slopes a few years ago and is here to stay. It comes as no surprise, though, as cyclists and mountain bikers are welcoming the help when ascending the steep tracks of the Verbier Valley or navigating its winding roads.

This e-bike revolution has taken Europe by storm, with a 100% rise in sales in just five years. If you also want to take part in this activity that has opened the mountains to everyone, then there's no better place to start than the Verbier E-Bike Festival, which takes place from August 15th to 18th 2019.

Here are some of the festival's highlights.

E-Tour du Mont Blanc

The flagship event of the E-Bike Festival, the E-Tour du Mont Blanc will gather professional riders who will race each other on a 300km course for three days. Crossing the borders between Switzerland, Italy and France as they go around the Mont Blanc massif, this competition will finish in Verbier on Friday, August 16th from 11:30.

E-Bike tests

All sorts of electric bikes will be offered up for testing with more than 30 brands available, including mountain bikes, road bikes and gravel bikes. There will be nine tracks for you to test them on, taking from 10 to 30 minutes and ranging from easy paths to more technical routes. One of our favourite local cycle hire shops, Backside Verbier, will be showcasing the latest innovations by American manufacturer Trek, offering guided tours as well.

E-Bike tours

Rediscover the Verbier mountains on an electric bike and access hidden corners of the valley in an easy, safe way. There will be three types of tours on offer. The 'Rando Gourmande' will take place every day, leaving at 09:00-10:30 from the Place Centrale. Combining mountain biking and gourmet eating, you'll be able to choose between an easy and a more difficult route and stop at five local restaurants along the way to enjoy breakfast, apero, lunch, dessert and finish off with a craft beer tasting. There will also be seven full-day and four half-day routes traced around the Valley which can be tackled on your own or with a guide. Finally, the challenging Tour de Val de Bagnes will take place on Saturday 17th. This e-enduro race will offer three different routes to choose from: 38km, 66km and 100km

You can celebrate your victory at Le Bec, which will host an apres-bike bash with BBQ, live music and beers every day from 15:30.
