Top 10 things to do for non-skiers in Verbier winter 2017/18

While Verbier might undoubtedly be one of the best places in the world for those who love to shred the mountain, there’s plenty more beneath the surface to keep non-skiers happy for a lifetime!

If you’re coming to Verbier this winter and aren’t skiing, or perhaps you’re just keen to take a day off from the slopes, we’ve listed our favourite things for non-skiers to do.

Heli Sightseeing

Verbier

For anyone who hasn’t flown in a helicopter before, it’s one of those things in life that if you ever get the chance, take it, because it’s unforgettable and exhilarating. Whitetracks Helicopters and Heli Alps both offer helicopter sightseeing tours and scenic flights around the Verbier region, allowing you to see mountain ridges, glaciers, lakes, and terrain that you could only dream of seeing from the ground.

If you fancy stopping for lunch somewhere, Kando Experiences can even organise to be dropped off atop an isolated glacier, with a lavish spread of food and wine awaiting you, served on a table carved in the snow. This is the luxury of a high-end restaurant, transported to a mountain range.

Day at the spa

Verbier

Verbier offers a range of fantastic places to kick back and indulge in some relaxation, with the Nevai, Cinq Mondes, Wholey Cow, and Away Spa all offering a variety of treatments, along with use of the rest of their amazing facilities. If you don’t fancy leaving the chalet, then Chilali and 1936 massage can both bring the massage parlour to your chalet. They are all highly qualified practitioners and know how to deal with any of those aches and pains you might have after a tough day on the slopes.

Paragliding

Verbier

If you’ve ever wondered what the mountains look like through the eyes of an eagle, then paragliding could answer all your questions. Verbier Summits offers you a variety of different paragliding experiences and is an inexpensive way to see the mountains from the air. Run by two twin brothers, who have over 20 years and 12,000 flying hours, you’ll have the opportunity to have an in-flight photo or video so you can boast to your mates back home and re-live the experience.

Ice karting

Verbier

Think you’re the next Lewis Hamilton? Have a go at the awesome Verbier Ice Karting track! Anyone who’s given Go-Karting a try knows how fun it is, and adding ice into the mix makes it an even more thrilling experience. All the karts have been specially designed for use on the snow, having been fitted with studded bars, roll bars, seatbelts and a fitted safety remote control which allows staff to control the speed of the kart when necessary (handy for when children are driving). Book in advance, however, as this is a super popular activity in Verbier.

Ice climbing

Verbier

Incredibly popular in the summer months in the Alps, Verbier offers the chance for holidaymakers to go climbing in the winter too… with a twist! You would usually think that it would be impossible to climb a waterfall but, when nature works its magic and freezes the water, you’re left with an incredibly beautiful climbing wall of ice. You can hire a mountain guide to teach you how to make your way up the ice walls in no time and, if you’re an experienced ice climber, there are many different falls with varying levels of difficulty in the area.

Escape room

Verbier

Escape rooms are popping up all over the globe and the hype following them is justified! In Verbier, you and a group of mates can enter into three different rooms, in which you’ll be confronted with a dilemma you must solve in an hour or fall victim to an impending disaster. The rooms are not scary or unpleasant in any way and are a great place for friends, family, or colleagues to work together and challenge themselves.

Snowshoeing

Verbier

You can definitely still experience the majesty of the mountains and get a proper workout without skiing or a snowboarding. Adrenaline Ski School can take you on guided excursions where you wander through some of the most unseen of Verbier’s natural beauty. The instructors are all fully qualified and make a huge effort to ensure you receive their attention and are safe at all times.

Shopping

Verbier

Verbier has a fantastic array of shopping opportunities and many of the best fashion and mountain-wear brands have stores here. Browse through the chic winter jackets in the Mont-Cler shop, or see the latest avalanche bags that the Mammut store has on show. The staff in all of the shops are incredibly knowledgeable and will always help you with choosing the best items for you. Verbier also has a rich artisanal food industry, and you can sample the amazing produce in a multitude of different cheese and wine shops. The truffle brie is our recommendation!

Sledging / tobogganing

Verbier

The longest sledge run in French-speaking Switzerland lies here in Verbier! It has a vertical descent of 848 metres and is a thoroughly enjoyable experience to have with a group of friends as you challenge each other to reach the bottom first. The sledges are controlled by braking levers, so speed is determined by you, and it certainly won’t leave you short of adrenaline.

Husky sledding

Verbier

If you’re a dog lover, then husky sledding is an absolute must. Take a half-day and travel 7km through the forests and mountains on your first introduction to dog sledding, or go out for longer on a full-day mission. A full day trip will include a stop for a raclette lunch, and you’ll be pulled along at speed for 20km by the dogs. They require you to be in good physical shape though, as over the journey you’ll be doing a lot of work! You can also choose to take the panorama tour which is better for families who want to sit back and relax for 45 minutes as a guide does all the driving.
