Verbier Apres Ski Report: 24th February 2012

Mardi Gras & Mercury Rising

featured in Nightlife reviews Author S H, Updated

As the temperatures have risen this week, it seems Spring may have sprung slightly earlier than expected in Verbier. After the freezing temperatures of last week, this week has completely flipped and seen the mercury rise on the thermometers to just about the highest levels of the season so far. Certainly no complaints though, as the snow is still in great condition, it just means we can all drink and dine al fresco again!

The crowds rolled in last weekend to make the most of the mountains and enjoy some après. Brandon Block played an incredible set in Farinet Lounge and then onto Casbah on Friday night, with packed dance floors and grinning faces all round. The terrace at Le Rouge filled up quickly on Saturday as people tried to work on their ski tans in the sunshine while enjoying a well-earned drink off the slopes. Then Krystal Roxx pumped up the weekender crowds on Saturday at Hed Kandi in Farinet Lounge, as she returned for the second time this season.

The main focus of this week though, has of course, been Mardi Gras. It came, it saw and it pretty much conquered us all. The biggest party of the season so far, and it didn’t disappoint one bit. Fancy dress costumes from all walks of life crowded the streets, bars and terraces around town - starting from après ski on Tuesday and running right the way through until midday on the terrace at Le Rouge on Wednesday! Let’s give a hand to to all those that managed to last the distance. Cavemen, shellfish, commandos, sailors, zombies, cheerleaders, superheroes and a whole host of others could be seen popping up and partying throughout the night and next day. Waste joined in by playing their hugely popular daily set in Apres Ski @ the Farinet in full Stone Age gear to honour the Farinet theme. They are only in Verbier until Saturday so make sure you get down there and see them rock the place before then. So the countdown to next Mardi Gras begins – less than a year to go already!

If Mardi Gras has taken its toll on you, and all you ladies out there (and gents, if that’s your thing. Johnny?) are in need of some pampering, then the great news is that Verbier now has its very own gel nails specialist! Chaps, bear with me for a second. With all the wear and tear that can come from ski boots and clothing, why not book an appointment with Nails by Tokozile at the Nevai Spa - or home visits can be arranged also if requested in advance. So as we blurrily move on past Mardi Gras, let’s take a look ahead to this weekend. The Burlesque Show returns to Farinet Lounge and Casbah with Lily DesLys this Friday. Entertaining audiences on the most prestigious of stages in Paris with her chic and naughty acts, Lily will be bringing the atmosphere of the 1920s to Verbier. Dig out your burlesque basque and head down to see the show from 10pm – it’s set to be a busy one! The Six Nations returns this weekend, with 3 big games all being shown in a number of spots in town – The Loft, T Bar and Pub Mont Fort will all be showing them live with reasonable prices on drinks throughout.

On Tuesday next week the divas will come out to play, led by Johnny T of course, as Casbah presents Disco Night from 10pm to 4am with fancy dress encouraged all round. If that doesn’t float your particular boat, then Public will also be holding a Girly Night Groove on the same night. Both nights promise to be as popular as ever, with Seasonaires all over town celebrating their well-deserved night off. On Wednesday, Le Rouge are celebrating the extra day that we find ourselves with this year from 3pm onwards – then after the sun goes down, the semi-final is already upon us on for the Battle of the DJs in Casbah from 11:30pm. It’s free entry before 1am with drinks promotions, so head down to support your favourite DJ and get them to the final! Bonne chance to all.

The sun’s set to stay with us, enjoy the extra day - there aren't many better places you could be right now.
