Verbier Apres Ski Report: 15th March 2012

St Park-Tricks Day

featured in Nightlife reviews Author S H, Updated

So it’s getting hot over here. There hasn’t been even the slightest hint of a cloud in the sky this week and we’ve had t-shirts and red faces all round. The snow has rather predictably suffered though, so haul yourselves from under the covers and get up the mountain early if you’re not a fan of riding and rolling through the slush.

Taking a glance back at the last week, Le Rouge was, as always, jam packed over the weekend with both terraces welcoming everyone’s weary legs straight off the slopes for a well earned drink. Hed Kandi made a welcome return to Farinet Lounge on Saturday evening after a one-week break, with Stephanie Jay playing from 10pm. Then on Sunday, the Loft hosted the first I’m Not F****** Famous night, presented by Verbier Seasonaires. On Tuesday night the Pub Mont Fort and Casbah transformed into a USA High School Disco – and they were awash with cheerleaders, jocks and glee.

Now with the temperatures showing little sign of dropping anytime soon, it’s probably a good time to give you a heads up on some of the best spots on the mountain to enjoy a drink basking in the sunshine and working on your goggle tans. If you’re starting your afternoon right up at the highest point in Verbier, pop along to the cafe at the very top of Mont Fort. From 3300m up, if you’re lacking the courage or oxygen to tackle the ever-increasing mogul field that awaits below, then don’t panic, you can also get the cable car back down.

On a clear day, which pretty much every one seems to be at the moment, you won’t find many better views in the world while you sip on a vin chaud. A little further down, the Ice Cube at Ruinettes always has a popular terrace, often with a live DJ playing to keep it lively. Keep going down the hill and you’ll find 1936 – grab yourself a pitcher, pull up a deckchair and I can guarantee your afternoon will fly by. Don’t fear if you’re having a lazy day and don’t fancy heading up the lifts at all though, T Bar has a huge terrace just looking over Place Centrale and is always popular when the sun’s out.

So what fun’s to be had in the sun this weekend and into next week? This Friday we welcome back Waste to Apres Ski @ Farinet who are playing live every day until 29th March – head down to check them busting out some classic tunes everyday from 6pm, they have a very loyal following from the locals! Then it’s 80’s night later into the evening on Friday at T Bar if you want to push on through from après.

Save some juice for Saturday though, it’s set to be a hectic one. The time has come around for this year’s Park 9 event in the Verbier Snowpark – the fun park will be transformed to look like a golf course with 9 features consisting of a variety of kickers, rails and some surprises. There will also be an icebar, BBQ and party on the hill to keep the crowds entertained throughout the day courtesy of Pub Mont Fort. It’s the last day of the Six Nations too, with all three games being shown in Loft, T Bar, and Pub Mont Fort. To honour St Paddy’s Day, you can watch the England vs Ireland game in Pub Mont Fort with special drinks promotions on all Guiness, Caffreys and Irish Carbombs. What’s more, they have their usual Happy Hour running from 4pm – 5pm with half price beer and wine. Later into the night, Hed Kandi will be presenting Twisted Disco at the Farinet Lounge and Casbah with Sarah Louise stepping behind the decks. It’s going to be a big one!

Tuesday night sees the Loft and Casbah present Pirates of the Casbah! Grab an eye patch and swashbuckle down from midnight, where Djette Ladyfuchs and DJ Ratty will be rocking the galleon. Then on Wednesday, it’s Spring Equinox, so Le Rouge will be celebrating the official start of Spring from 3pm. And just around the corner we have Verbier Xtreme, starting next Saturday, when we will be welcoming some of the world’s best freeriders to town. More to come on that next week…

In the meantime, get down and enjoy the rays!
