Verbier Apres Ski Report: 12th April 2013

Less than two weeks to go!

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Angus Griffin, Verbier Reporter Updated

With less than two weeks left of this season, things are getting nostalgic. The snow is beginning to deteriorate as the warm spring weather blows over our alpine dwelling, but BBQs are out and despite skiing taking a back seat, it’s still a great time to be in resort. So let’s see what the lies ahead for the last two weeks:

Firstly, last week saw rise to Après closing party – it was, without a doubt, a sure highlight to the season. Hedonistic party-goers crammed themselves into the bar and the now familiar beer spraying, crazy dancing and out-of-tune-chanting was brought to spine-tingling conclusion. Nostalgia ran through everyone’s veins but fortunately the Farinet also held The Lounge’s closing night, making the whole experience a lot easier to deal with. The theme – namely ‘What The F*** Are You Wearing?’ - meant that the last bits of fancy dress brought over from home-lands was thrown together creating some fascinatingly eclectic attire. As has been the case all season, the music was exemplary: DJette LadyFuchs and special guests played a whole host of house-based tracks that had people dancing on tables, sofas and even behind the bar. A pretty crazy night on all accounts, there could be no better way to say farewell to one of the best bars in the Alps. Thank you Farinet.

In other news, one of the last remaining Seasonaire Tuesday’s saw some great happenings in resort. A beach party at the Pub Mont Fort got us all excited for the summer and The Loft let the Verbier Touch team take over the bar. The massage therapy company knew exactly how to reel in the punters and the bar was packed to the rafters with thirsty seasonaires. Despite being handy with the drinks, the team of masseuses specialize in sports massages, relaxation massages and even deep tissue massages. So if you’re feeling a bit achy after five months of skiing, why not give them a ring on 0041 (0) 787239674 or email brigatta@theverbiertouch.com. What’s more, they even do chalet visits.....

If you’re hunting for the perfect place to indulge one last time in fondue, raclette and other mountain specialties, there’s only one restaurant special enough to play host to this honour. Veteran eaterie Carrefour, a name that has become synonymous with Verbier’s classy yet traditional atmosphere, is one of the oldest places to eat in the whole of the 4 valleys. Renovated in 2000, it still keeps its mythical charm whilst churning out plate after plate of some the finest food to hit the Swiss Alps. The L’Avalanche fondue is particularly special, and comes with a selection of cold, local meats. If cheese is not whetting that appetite, choose from an amazing selection of grilled meats; cooked yourself on a Pierre Chaude (hot stone), it’s up to you how rare it comes and although prices are fairly steep (starting at 47CHF per person), it’s perfect for a special occasion. Located at the top of the Le Rouge run, if you’re feeling particularly courageous after a few glasses of Fendant, you can even take toboggans down… Be warned though, bring torches and take it steady – it’s not for the faint hearted!

The penultimate week sees many, many season treats. Firstly, the Le Rouge End of Season Red Party is guaranteed to rock your socks off. The combination of some of your favorite house tracks and a sun-soaked terrace is a recipe for the perfect après so dig out your finest red regalia and make the most of the afternoon.

On a more sporting note, Saturday 13th April sees the face at Mont Fort host the World XSpeed Ski Open Race finals. Competitors fly down 880m of piste and reach speeds of over 200kmph - exhilarating and mind-blowingly ballsy, the event will have you awe-struck. British snowboarder Jamie Barrow will be gunning to set an official UK speed record so come down and support him as he bids to hit speeds of around 100mph - standing sideways! What’s more, with the weather scheduled to be sunny that day, it’s a great excuse to get the tan going; so why compliment this sporting phenomenon with a mountain picnic?

As usual, check our events calendar to see what else is on town this week!
