Verbier Apres Ski Report: 14th February 2013

A Verbier Mardi Gras - the Highlight of the Season so Far

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Angus Griffin, Verbier Reporter Updated

Wow – what a week in Verbier! With an unprecedented amount of snow and seemingly endless après fun, this week’s festivities have hit dizzy heights. So as the blurry memories of Mardi Gras start to slip away into the murky past, let’s have a look back at what can only be described as the highlight of the season so far!

Mardi Gras in Verbier is like nothing else. As seasonaires frantically paced the supermarket aisles, trying to spy the most outlandishly shocking outfit, everyone in resort seemed to be joining in the fun. Rubik’s cubes, Crayola crayons and Buzz Lightyear could all be spotted roaming the streets of Verbier – not an everyday sight – and everybody seemed to be in high spirits.

There were endless possibilities to choose how to spend this week’s excuse to party. The Lounge at Farinet was packed and the ever-tasty cocktails flowed from the hands of quality bartenders. The Loft threw a particularly vibrant party, with bar staff and customers alike making a big effort on the dressing up front. The night was rammed full of characters from A Clockwork Orange not to mention the odd mermaid. With a DJ causing itchy feet, the evening was just getting started and at around 1am the bulging crowd started to drift over to The Casbah to carry on the fun.

Packed to bursting, everyone seemed to be there and even those with early starts the next day substituted a decent nights sleep for the craziest night of the season so far. There was a constant queue at the bar and the stage in front of the DJ booth seemed to be a particularly great spot to pick to dance. There seemed to be a constant influx of people and no matter how late it got, party-goers still seemed to drift into the club.

After-closing time at The Casbah, there was only one place to go: Le Rouge. Flooding the interior like a swelling tide, the die-hard hedonists ventured up the hill through a cloud of murky fog. It was well worth the late-night trek though, as those that did make it up were met with an electric atmosphere. An epic DJ relay (24 hours of pure live DJs) saw an array of talented deck masters, including everyone’s favourite DJette LadyFuchs and DJ Sanna Lindstrom playing some great Tunes. Blending Techno with enlivening House, the toe-tapping tracks carried everyone into the early morning. As the sun came up, the party still didn’t stop and as some went to work, others remained to make it a two-day rave.

It really was that crazy and even gave New Year’s Eve a run for its money. If you missed out, make sure you book your holiday to overlap with this epic party next year. Missing it for another year would simply be criminal!

Last Sunday also saw Pub Mont Fort host Bluebird Seasonaire’s Date Night. If this got you in the mood for love, well Valentine’s Day is just round the corner! Romance seems to be floating around the chilly winter’s air everywhere at the moment and whether you’re looking to finally ask that special someone out for a romantic meal, or just looking for another excuse to party, Verbier’s extensive range of restaurants and bars has something to offer for every occasion.

Novel and different, one of the best ways to meet that special someone is through the innovative Speed Ski Dating day. For those single and ready to mingle only, skiers and boarders meet at Ruinettes at 09:00 to get themselves a lucky arm-band. Entitling you to chat to anyone else wearing the band without getting odd looks, it’s a great opportunity to spark up conversation on a chairlift, off-piste or over a warm vin chaud. What’s more, special date locations are arranged throughout the day, starting with a meet-up at Ruinettes Café for a coffee at 10am and finishing with some picturesque après at Bar 1936.

There’s no denying it - this week has been amazing. With Valentine’s Day to look forward to today, as well as Waste returning to take centre stage at The Aprés Ski Bar at Farinet, once again, it’s looking to be a good’un! Check out the events calendar to see what else is on in the 4 Valleys this week.

Happy loving!
