Verbier Activity Review: 12th July 2012

Mixed weather outside - plenty to do inside

featured in Activity reviews Author Lee Fieldsend, Verbier Reporter Updated

Mixed weather continues to continue and it seems that we may have to wait a little longer for summer with the Verbier forecast for the next week being unstable. Thankfully there is a hint of sunshine from time to time over the next couple of days and somewhere up there it continues to shine so hot that when the clouds do part, even for an afternoon, it has been drying up very quickly.

The lifts from Le Chable to Verbier and up to Ruinettes opened last Friday and are now open full time until 17th September (08.00-17.30 and 08.00-17.00 respectively) and then weekends after that - full lift timetable here. Also the Savoleyres and Tzoumaz lifts are now open everyday until 26th August. That sector closes for lunch from 12.30-13.30 but the less rocky terrain and much more beautiful surroundings make this a great place to head. The La Chaux Express is open for walkers only (as far as I know) and bikers should cycle around the track from Ruinettes to La Chaux to reach Col des Gentianes. The La Chaux Express will be running all day everyday until the 26th August. The lifts up to Col des Gentianes and the Mont Fort are running every half an hour until the end of August and the weekends of September after that.

The pool and sports centre have also been open recently. There is an outdoor leisure pool to top up the tan and indoor one for when the weather is rough. There are also all weather tennis courts, a covered ice skating ring (complete with ice go-carting) and squash courts. The horse riding stables are also located in the same area and horse back is great way to explore the mountains. The large car parking area that separates the two activity centres is where Verbier will hold all summer events such as the horse show, classical music festival and the Bike Fest.

Verbier also has a great golf course which is surrounded by beautiful alpine scenery. There is a driving range and a pitch and putt course to help with your game.

Over last weekend the Loft and Coup d’Etat opened to compliment T-Bar and Pub Mont Fort that are already open. Also Fer à Cheval opened recently as did the Dahu and Chez Danny restaurants higher up the mountain.

The constant showers have been getting in the way of rock climbing but hopefully that will not last all summer. Recently I have been going to Yoga and it has certainly helped to stop my poor old bones from seizing up. Classes are 15chf each time and they take place at different venues, most days and at varying times of the day.

The weather over the coming week looks as if it could do anything but recently the showers have been light and the sun has been around frequently as summer tries to fight its way past a stubborn Spring.
