Verbier Activity Review: 2nd August 2011

featured in Activity reviews Author Lee Fieldsend, Verbier Reporter Updated

With the end of the Verbier Music Festival and the Swiss National Day celebrations behind us calm has returned to Verbier and so has the summer weather.

Temperatures have risen sharply and clear blue skies have bathed the area in golden sunshine. The departure of the music festival has been immediately felt but there are still plenty of people around to give the feeling of life in town and around the mountains where bikers, walkers and para-ponters ply their pursuits.

In the world of biking the only thing at the moment to take note of is that the top of the blue run is closed off until the end of this month which is a shame as there is little else for beginner riders to play on. There are scooters to hire for those that want a more relaxed way down the many fire roads and cat tracks in the area.

The recent spell of stable weather has allowed lots of flying and great thermals have allowed para-ponters to stay up high above Verbier, taking in the incredible scenery and enjoying the peace of the mountains.

The warm weather has also dried out the walking paths and mountain trails so walkers are once again rewarded with breathtaking views of high mountains scenery and low mountain valleys covered with quaint chalets and lush green forests.

Further down the valley the Verbier golf course is super busy verbiergolfclub.ch and there is also plenty to do down at the sport centre such as swimming in the outdoor pool, tennis, volleyball and ice karting on the ice ring www.kartingextremeverbier.com. Also there are stables down in the same area for anyone wanting to take a ride through the area www.lesecuriesdeverbier.ch.

Through the daytime there are lots of places to go and enjoy the daytime sun. T-Bar, Chez Danny, Pub Mont Fort and Farinet are just a few of the great spots in town and the surrounding areas. By night, many of the above are still open with live music in T-Bar and Coup d’ Etat providing the late night service.

The weather looks set to continue for at least the next few days with hot temperatures and heaps of sunshine. Just what one needs to enjoy the Verbier mountains.
