Fresh snow today in Verbier

New snow to help us through to the end of the season

featured in Snow report Author European Snowsport, Verbier Reporter Updated

We have had some new snow in Verbier! The hot weather recently means that the snow line was quite high, but there is new snow from about 2100m, just below Le Ruinettes station.

So far about 5-10cm have fallen, and the snowfall is meant to slow down around lunch time, with clearer skies in the afternoon – although still cloudy. However, tomorrow is forecast to be slightly better weather, with some sunshine, followed by more snow on Friday.

This is great news for the pistes of Verbier, as the warm weather had made them quite heavy and slushy. The new snow will mean that the last 3 weeks of the season will still have great conditions higher on the mountain. For the moment all lifts are still open in the Verbier and Savoleyres domain. Bruson is still closed. With the warmer weather don’t forget to look out for piste and lift closures later in the day, such as the run down from Savoleyres to Carrefour, and the path from Gentianes. Keep checking the piste information boards so you don’t get stuck anywhere!

Today almost all of the itineraries are all closed due to the new snowfall. Chassoure-Tortin is the only itinerary that has been opened, the rest are likely to remain closed for the day, until they can secure them. Avalanche danger is at 3 out of 5.

The end of this week is the start of the Verbier Impulse festival. This weekend and next, there will be several concerts on the pistes and in certain bars around town. They have already cut seating areas below the Carlsberg restaurant, and it looks set to be a great event in town. Entrance to the concerts is a ski pass, and Televerbier have put on some great deals for the two weekends.

Enjoy the new snow!
