What's new this winter in Verbier

From the Four Valleys ski area to what's fresh in the resort

As winter begins to take hold we take a look at all that's new in town and on the slopes.

Early signs of snowfall in The Valais are creating much excitement for the upcoming winter season. The ski industry here is raring to go and this winter looks like being an exceptionally busy one. Verbier ski area opens on 2 December. and ski passes are on sale.

Sustainability in Verbier
In addition to improving the snow grooming and snow making systems and encouraging alternative forms of transport, Téléverbier has introduced a number of measures to create a greener mountain and limit the impact of tourism on the environment. The motors on the lifts have been updated and automatically adjust the speed of the lifts to help reduce electricity consumption. 

The resort's old heating system has been replaced with a pellet system reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 90% which has resulted in a huge reduction of CO².

What's new this winter in Verbier

On the slopes

Race your mates
This year skiers can enjoy a dedicated race area at the top of the La Tzoumaz - Savoleyres area. There is a state-of-the-art timing system and a giant slalom course with around 15 gates. Open to everyone.

What's new in Verbier winter 2019/20

In resort

Parc de Loisirs ice rink
The ice rink has undergone a transformation and from this winter there is an ice slide with rings for sliding. Next to the slide is a 450m² free skating area with an ice path that is ideal for taking a skating stroll along. There's a small bar for refreshments and small bites.

Hotels

The Butterfly Effect
Papill'on restaurant made quite an impact when it launched itself onto the Verbier scene over 18 months ago. And the owners haven't stopped there, this year they introduced a family-oriented boutique hotel with nine alpine style rooms. Ideally situated on La Tzoumaz's Rue Centrale, the venue also hosts numerous musical and cultural events throughout the year.

Restaurants

Chalet Carlsberg renewed
This winter this legendary spot is being reinvented. A place where old meets new, it will be renamed L'Inkontro, which literally means "I will meet you" in the local dialect. Located at the crossroads of Verbier's major slopes, it is a place where skiers can meet and catch up, sharing their experiences of the day.

Le Koti
New kid on the block is a pub, a bistro and a coffee shop all in one. Open seven days a week for food and drink, it's to be found just a short five minute walk from Le Châble ski lifts.

Polaris Festival 2022, Verbier

Events

A great line up this winter in Verbier from freeride events, winter running trails, Swiss Alpine Ski Championships to the renowned electronic music festival Polaris.
