Spring has arrived in Verbier this week

Colder temperatures than normal for this time of year

featured in Snow report Author European Snowsport, Verbier Reporter Updated

This week Verbier has really felt Spring arrive. Although temperatures have remained cold up at altitude, in town the terraces have been full of people enjoying the bright sunshine.

We have had several days of blue skies which is set to continue for the rest of the week, with no clouds on the horizon. The terraces are going to be busy these next few days!

Even though the sun is shining strongly, the temperatures have remained low, with -4 degrees in town, so the snow is staying fantastic. As usual in spring, the afternoons the snow is heavier than in the mornings. We suggest to get up early with a good pair of piste skis to carve up the hard morning pistes.

All of the pistes are open in the Verbier domain. Just the itinerary down to Le Chable is closed as there is no longer any snow on the lower part of the run. There is still 40cm of snow in Verbier at 1,500m, and 179cm at Ruinettes at 2,200m, and 240cm at 2,950m at Gentianes. The snow is in great condition still because of the cold temperatures. The tops of the mountains were very windy earlier in the week, but the wind speed has dropped today, so it is a lot nicer to stand at the top of the mountain.

Avalanche dangers is at 2 out of 5, which is a moderate danger. There are still fresh tracks to be found if you put some effort in (or get in a helicopter!) With the spring snow be aware of the changing conditions in the afternoons and make sure you plan accordingly.

Have a great weekend in the sun!
