Wall to wall sunshine & a lot of pisted playtime in Verbier

Week ahead staying sunny with potential new snow early in 2017

Firstly I have to mention and commend The 4 Vallees for their impressive results with snow making and getting the slopes open for us. Over this week there has been a small Christmas eve offering leaving areas with a little more snow to feel and enjoy under your skis/board/feet. However, I would recommend getting a good edge service to give you that comforting support when whipping around the piste.

The snowpark in La Chaux was put together and opened this week, enjoyable laps can be had here. The jumps are shaped nicely for beginners to take a turn, and also for the more acrobatic of you there is plenty of space to get some rotations in. Alongside the two jumps you’ve also got a pick and mix choice of rails and boxes to piece together your own challenges and air time.

Down in Lac des Vaux there is some chalky off-piste to get adventurous in. Moguls have been shaped nicely if you really want to get your legs pumping, and a lot of fun has been had in this area over the past week.

The rite of passage ‘Tortin’ has been open with an itinerary but I would only recommend if you are happy for your skis/board to roll over a few rocks. The traverse can be a little spicey but once in, the snow is surprisingly good. However, steady yourself for the mogul exit as it requires a slow in speed to avoid the rocks.

Another favourited place this week has been Siviez. There has been a lot of investment with snow cannons in the last year over on these runs, so although the tree skiing is yet to get going, the pistes are a haven for getting your turns in and lapping with your friends and family.

This time of year is always inviting to be out in Verbier. The Christmas holiday festivities have been paired with endless sun and therefore illuminating the surrounding majestic mountains. A perfect accompaniment to the piste laps has been the very popular ‘vin chaud’ (mulled wine). There are plenty of restaurants and bars to stop and enjoy the bright, warm mountain landscapes. A recommendation for a sunny terrace, mountain views and a good vin chaud would be Le Mouton Noir, restaurant and lounge. It is just across the piste from Les Ruinettes.

Over all, although the fresh snow hasn’t yet come in on masses but the skies are the bluest of blues and the pistes are amazingly well groomed first thing and there are a lot of areas open to discover. Keep an eye on our weather forecast and snow reports for more info.
