Taking the kids skiing in Verbier this winter? A ski holiday with little ones can be a big adventure. After booking the holiday and packing up all the gear you still need to figure out ski lessons for the kids and how to keep them happy the entire week.

We’ve got the low down on children’s ski lessons in Verbier and everything else you need to know to ensure the kids enjoy their holiday and therefore so can you.

Ski Schools

Verbier has a great choice of Ski Schools, most of whom offer children's lessons and there are a handful of Private Ski Instructors who can also take small groups of children or individuals.

Meeting Points

Ski school meeting points tend to be at the bottom of the ski lifts in each of the different sectors of Verbier and some Ski Schools or Private Instructors can meet you at a location of your choice, you just need to ask if they offer this service.

Ski areas for Beginners

Les Esserts is the main beginners area which is accessible by a short 10 minute bus ride from the Medran. It has a magic carpet and a drag lift. The Savoleyres ski area has good terrain for beginners and less chance of getting stuck in the wrong area. You can access it by bus with a skiable route back to Verbier.

Bringing the babies along?

Don’t be intimidated if you’re on holiday with very wee ones, free buses around Verbier are child-friendly and allow easy access around the resort. Keep in mind though the buses can be tricky to navigate. They run regularly during the winter, but just be sure to get the right number to get to the right area.

You can ride the lift all the way to the top of Verbier (Mont Fort) by just using bubble lifts and cable cars (so no chair lift needed) to access the beautiful views of Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn without putting on a pair of skis - there is also a discounted lift pass price for non skiers. Babies and buggies can go up the bubbles and cable cars but keep in mind the pressure change with the higher altitude - you may want to seek advice from your family doctor first.

There is a kid's play area behind the Phoenix Hotel in Verbier and lots of nice walks for mums with babies. A good area to explore is the Patier area in Verbier which is accessible on one of the free bus routes. And don’t worry about lugging all your baby gear along with you. Hire every product you could possibly need from Petit Verbier. From high chairs to car seats to cots, they’ve got it covered and will deliver to your accommodation in Verbier.

Where to eat with the kids?

James Blunt's restaurant, La Vache has a good menu for kids with some excellent pizza and burgers. It's a fun atmosphere to be in and has a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains. It is also close to a blue run and beginners slope called Lac des Vaux. Offshore is a very trendy restaurant with a VW beetle right in the middle! The menu has lots to choose from (blueberry pancakes are a good recommendation) and the chance to colour in the table matt (it's a VW beetle).

Or if you want to enjoy an adult’s lunch, Le Bec is right at the finish area of the run down into Verbier from Ruinettes so a perfect finish point. They have a crèche which is supervised by qualified nannies so you can drop off they kids to play while you enjoy your lunch. It can get very busy so booking is advised. What else can the kids get up to?

If you’re looking for some afternoon and evening activities for the kids, Verbier has plenty to offer. Sledging is always popular; you can rent sledges from most ski hire shops in town and choose from different sizes. Or if you’re looking for something a bit more adventurous the Savoleyres 1000m sledging run is great fun but not for small kids. And don't forget to wear lots of layers!

Every Wednesday night you can see the ‘Descent flambee’ from Savoleyres, a flaming torch decent which starts with a meal in the top restaurant. For skiing fun you can go to the skier cross, the Freestyle Park at La Chaux or the ‘big air’ jump near chalet Charlesberg. There’s also a climbing wall, ice skating and swimming at the Centre Sportif. Or you can always go to the cinema, or if you’d rather make your own movie you can rent a drone.

Also check out what is going on for the week you’re there. When you arrive in your resort ask your reps or head down to the tourist office to find out what’s on during your week in Verbier. With different activities/entertainment each week it’s good to get your finger on the pulse so as not to miss out. From Santa visits during Christmas, to an on-snow music concert for New Year to torchlight descents throughout the season, there’s often something special going on in resort.

New Generation Verbier Ski School Info

Children’s group ski lessons with New Generation run Monday-Wednesday (with an optional Sunday add-on) from 9am until 12pm. This gives the group plenty of time to explore the slopes of Verbier. There is also an option to add on additional full day lesson on Thursday (9am-3pm). This is a great option for kids who want to socialise and make new friends all whilst improving their skiing steadily with daily progress. Lunch is included for this day.

Lessons run from beginners to Freeride level ages 4-13 (please specify level and age when booking to ensure the best fit group). The groups are limited to a group size of 5 so that kids really get the advantages of being with friends but also much more one-on-one time with the instructor.

Or opt for private kids lessons that give one on one experience, or the lesson can be shared amongst a few children of the same level, where they get 100% of the instructors attention. The instructor can tailor the lesson exactly to the need to your child, or children.

The meeting point for our Verbier Ski School meeting point is situated outside the restaurant ‘Relais des Neiges’, opposite the main Medran lift. New Generation ski and snowboard instructors are easily identifiable in their bright blue uniforms.

See you on the slopes!
