Verbier Apres Ski Report: 11th April 2012

Easter Funnies

featured in Nightlife reviews Author S H, Updated

So as the snowline gradually shrinks, the resort has swelled with visitors for the Easter holiday period. But although the lift lines have lengthened and the snow is not as inviting as it has been, there are still plenty of great things going on in Verbier.

What an Easter weekend it has been, with Farinet and Casbah dominating the headlines, as Farinet Lounge became the first venue in town to close it’s doors on this season. Friday was the annual pre-closing Pink & White party in the Lounge, where the name pretty much spells out the theme of the outfits for the night. The party then continued in Casbah as Kill Em All presented Filthy Dukes (Fabric/UK) down until 4am. It was time for the final Hed Kandi of the season in Farinet Lounge and Casbah as DJ Andy Norman took position behind the decks from 10pm to 4am on Saturday. Then came the big one on Sunday, the season closing of Farinet Lounge – with what is now the annual tradition of ‘What the f&%k are you wearing?’. There were weird, wonderful and even weirder outfits on display as everyone bid a fond farewell to one of the best spots in town. We look forward to the doors opening again next year!

If you’re looking for something a little bit different and you’re not quite filling your appetite for adrenaline on the slopes, then I recommend signing up for some extreme ice karting with Karting Extreme Verbier. You must book in advance, but if you fancy drifting around their purpose built track at speeds of up to 50kph, with Daytona style banked corners, then book yourselves in - it all takes place at the Verbier Centre Sportif.

Afterwards, what better way to compare lap times and argue on driving skills than over a cocktail or three. Every Tuesday, Nevai Bar offers cocktail tastings from 7pm onwards. For 30CHF per person, the bar staff will create 3 taster cocktails from their impressive selection for you. What’s more, you can head down earlier to Nevai après ski which is now open every weekend from 3pm onwards, a great place to soak up the sunshine with drinks, snacks and great music as you gaze across the valley.

It’s into that time of year though, where there’s some form of party seemingly everywhere you turn. On Tuesday, it’s time for the annual Pub Mont Fort Beach Party. This is one of the biggest parties at the Pub all year, so fancy dress is a must and everyone will receive seasonaire prices on drinks from 10pm to 2am. What’s more, the Pub have also introduced their Pub Mont Fort Power Hour, adding to their existing happy hour from Sunday to Thursday between 10pm and 11pm, which includes half-priced beer, wine and champagne.

Then following close behind on Wednesday it is the turn of Apres Ski @ Farinet, where local band The Dicktators wil be joining forces with the Fuel Girls to sign off for the season. All the action will kick off from 5pm – it will be one of the best gigs of the season, so head down early to rock, roll and get wild.

Grab a quick breath and then brace yourselves for the weekend! There’s just the thing on the mountain to blow away some cobwebs after a heavy week, with the Xspeed Ski taking place from April 14th to 21st on the Mont Fort slope located between Verbier and Nendaz. The ‘POP KL’ is organized on 14th and 15th and is open for anyone to have a crack. Then the FIS World Speed Ski Championships take it over the following week for the competitors to really ramp it up. Forgive the pun, but believe it or not, a ramp has even been installed on the face to try and aim for some world record attempts. Seems sensible. Don’t blink, you’ll miss it.

Then, you’ve guessed it, more closing parties. King’s Bar and Restaurant have set their final goodbye for Saturday evening and later that night, from midnight onwards, comes the Casbah closing time. The theme has been set as ‘Extravaganza’, get down there early and don’t miss it, I can assure you it’ll be a great night! Sunday, at this time of the year, is no day of rest. Le Rouge will then be hosting their closing party: ‘The Big One’ with a beach theme on the terrace come rain or shine from 3pm. Some surprises are in store I hear, so pop along and get stuck in.

Pace yourselves, it’s going to be quite a week…
