Verbier Apres Ski Report: 15th December 2011

Verbier apres scene off to a flying start

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Lee Fieldsend, Verbier Reporter Updated

Even though we had a slow start to the season in terms of snowfall the après ski and nightlife of Verbier was off to a running start from the beginning. This time of the season is always very exciting. The influx of returning friends and new faces of both workers and visitors is a refreshing flip side to the peace and quiet of the summer.

Pub Mont Fort was the first to open and their first few weekends were manic, as people came from as far away as Geneva and the UK just to celebrate.Coup d’Etat then opened followed quickly by CasBah, giving us somewhere to dance the nights away, sipping cocktails and listening to some banging tunes.

This year CasBah has DJs Rob Sugarfree Solari and Ratty back again for some more fun and mayhem. DJ Laurence Fuchs will be playing upstairs in the Lounge amongst many guest DJs from epic labels such as HedKandi and Defected. CasBah is also having a DJ competition. First prize is a whopping 1000chf and the chance to play in CasBah one Friday night. Contact events@hotlefarinet.com before January for more info.

Just over the last couple of weeks Le Rouge, Farinet Lounge, The Loft and Public all opened too. The two new names you see there are new bars with new people but in old places. Public is in the old Coco club spot and they hosted a couple of cool promo nights which saw drinks for free. I can’t really remember the details as I might have had too much champagne but the night was great fun. The morning was not so much fun. It took me three hours to get to a drink of water and headache tablets………and they were only 30cms away!

The Lounge opening was great fun last weekend. There were a lot of people up and some great tunes. It was quite a contrast to see skaters and surfers standing next to bankers and city slickers. Only in Verbier ski resort does a tie, shirt and some funky rags fit in so well.

The Loft is the other new bar, opposite the post office, and it is the other side of Verbier. The new guys are the old guys from Wonderbar, which was a chilled out bar serving well priced drinks and offering good entertainment. The attitude at The Loft this year seems to be the same, too, and their more central location should mean that it will become as successful as the old InBetween was.

The Farm has only just opened, but hang on a minute, I have just one liver so you will have to wait until my next report for more information on the rest of the nightlife in town.

It would also be unfair not to give a shout out to the T-Bar. Through lean times and quiet times they are there for the local community serving good food and putting on some great entertainment. Keep an eye open for their live nights such as Simon and Vera, Faye and Yellow Mike (his name not mine) who just played three awesome nights last weekend.

Obviously Christmas is coming and for those of you worried about missing Santa, rest assured, he will be making appearances at the Medran lift station on 24th at 4pm and then down in the place central handing out free vin chaud on the 25th. All complaints about hangovers should be directed to him.

There are not a lot of special things planned for this weekend but you can be assured that, wherever you go, it will be a special night out in the snowy, Swiss mountains.
