Snow clouds bring 5cm of new snow to the Verbier mountains

More snow due on next week's forecast too

As predicted the snow has landed here in Verbier. The mountain has accumulated more snow from Thursday evening and throughout today, Friday.

Although the visibility isn’t there currently, this weekend is forecast to clear up and bring back those blue skies. The perfect ski day, fresh snow and bluebird conditions.

Most areas have a good base and therefore the fresh stuff will add that floaty feeling that we all love. Do be aware that some off-piste areas only have a marginal base and so there could be a few rocks easily uncovered with a ski.

All pistes are in great condition, offering great grip and smooth turns. The itineraries such as Gentianes and Tortin have filled in a little, offering more inviting sized moguls to ski within. Col des mines is a great itinerary run to experience the fresh powder without a huge gradient, the run is undulating and open spaced and takes you back down to Mayentzet chair lift.

This slope is south facing and so therefore gets a lot of direct sun it is best to ski this early morning when the snow is more stable with the cold temperatures. It is worth noting these areas are best explored by advanced skiers who have a knowledge of mountain safety and avalanches. There are plenty of ski schools and private instructors in Verbier offering off-piste sessions that can show you around the mountain with tips and lessons for your future ski days.

The snow will be kept cold during Saturday but Sunday is due to bring back warmer temperatures. These warm temperatures may well bring variables to the snow, some will be firm from the cold nights freeze whereas other areas (south facing slopes) will begin to warm up and soften. So the facts and stats are 145cm up at the summit and at the base we are looking at 21cm.

Looking ahead in the forecast early next week is warm, swiftly followed up with a big storm delivering a predicted 27cm over Monday and Tuesday.

The temperatures will be variable but up high above 2500m the snow will be amounting. Snow is predicted to carry on during Wednesday and Thursday, let's all keep our fingers crossed. It looks like the end of February is setting up the mountain for a good March.
